Calling all Cosplay models who are into anime, scifi , fantasy, tv, comics, movies, japanese fashion to come and join with us in an annual feast of arts, music and celebrating the art of Cosplay or Costume Playing.

1st 30 cosplay models who will be selected in our online registration, will be entitled to free entrance, meals and giveaways. Those who are not included in the 1st 30 registered participants are also welcome to come to the event as walk ins.

1,000 limited bear bricks convention toy was given away for early registered participants and the good part is that the event is FREE to enter. So as they say it was like a warzone inside, too many people and the crowd is so big as they enter the event after lining up at 9:00am.

Also the Supreme Class Optimus Prime was on sale at SG$110, and they spotted our local comics Mangaholixx having a booth at the event.

it seems that OCTOBER is really for COMICS MONTH.

Comic Odyssey will be celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary with a signing event with John Beatty, Leinil Francis Yu, Edgar Tadeo, Mico Suayan and myself.

The event will be held on October 27, 2007, Saturday, at the 3rd Floor, Pedro Gil Wing of Robinson’s Place along Pedro Gil in Malate, Manila from 1pm to 5pm. Raffles will be held every half hour.

This is John’s second visit to the Philippines, and as many comic book fans would know, John is the legendary inker for many comic books for Marvel and DC including the very first Secret Wars, Captain America, Batman, Superman, The Nam, Spiderman, Avengers, GI Joe, Green Lantern, Justice League, Magneto, New Mutants, The Punisher, and so many more.

Leinil Francis Yu is my one time pencilling partner on many titles including Superman: Birthright, High Roads, New X-Men Annual 2001, Fantastic Four Annual 2001, Wolverine, and Silent Dragon. He’s since worked on Ultimate Hulk and Wolverine and New Avengers.

Edgar Tadeo is a very talented curly guy who has either colored or inked titles like Spawn, Iron Man, Wolverine, Silver Surfer, Captain America, and High Roads.

Mico Suayan has recently knocked people dead with his debut on Marvel’s Moon Knight.

Toy Review : The DTC 2005 R.H.I.N.O

Name: R.H.I.N.O (Rapid Heli-Integrated Neutralizing Offensive Vehicle)
Driver: Cannonball
Series: Direct-To-Consumer
Manufactured By: Hasbro (Of Course!)
Released: 2005

Introductions:

The R.H.I.N.O is a sports car, Hummer, and Mobile Bunker on steroids all rolled into one. Released in 2005 for the Direct-To-Consumer market that also released the R.O.C.C but there are somethings that makes this one a must have...

Vehicle:

A two-in-one war machine because not only it does look like a mobile bunker on steroids it has a two seater helicopter.

Though the sleek look might give you goose bumps with the design of this vehicle due to its curves from a far would look better than the Tumbler from Batman Begins film.

Weapons:

One of the factors why the R.H.I.N.O. is no push over because its well armed to the teeth. Though not as nasty as a Rolling Thunder the R.H.I.N.O can survive an army of Hiss Tanks with his Gatling guns located at the back and the front.

Armed with two missile pods (carrying three missiles per pod) that can be attached to the Heli-Integrated vehicle. There is also another weapon attached in the rear, which actually the only spring loaded weapon.

Heli-Integrated:

The two-seater chopper looks like the V.E.N.O.M Switchblade that Miles Mayhem owned. Colors tailored to the base vehicle of the R.H.I.N.O this aerial back-up has the option to use the missile pods that is attached from the base vehicle as well.

Though without the pods the chopper looks bare only armed with machine gun located in the nose part similar to the real life Apache.

The other gripe I noticed that the rear propeller is molded as a solid part of the chopper.

Crew Compliment:

The R.H.I.N.O can carry 13 figures but it depends on how you position them.

Two sits at front (including the driver), and then the deployment area on the left side can carry five. In which having three seated while the two figures are standing by the doors. On the right side theres no opening so they have to be positioned standing.

At the rear right side part part theres a hatch, where someone is manned to use the Gatling gun from the rear. Inside another passenger is seated, but mostly that area is reserved for the manned trooper in the Gatling gun.

The other two are seated in the Heli-Integrated chopper (Pilot & Co-Pilot).

Driver:

Cannonball is a new figure to me not familiar with the appearance, but the name was used in one of the Transformers Cybertron robots as a Decepticon Pirate.

The figure mostly painted vest in yellow and the only accessory he has is his helmet. He is like the vehicles accessory instead of the other way around.

Gimmick:

The cool gimmick that the R.H.I.N.O have is the Heli-Integrated elevating from its seated nest slowly. You just push the button located from the rear of the vehicle.

The only gripe I noticed is that the missile pods are giving chopper a difficulty to elevate, because they are slightly blocking it. You have to remove them in order to have the chopper elevate properly.

The other gimmick is the spring loaded ramp part of the floor, which you position the figure attached to the deploy door on the right side of the vehicle.

Packaging:

Like in any G.I. Joe vehicle it is packaged in a normal square box design, but you only need is minor assembly like attaching the pods, missile, Gatling guns, and the rotating machine gun for the chopper.

Overall:

If your just a minimalist who doesn't want a Mobile Command Center to take up space in your room, and would like to assemble your own troop this is vehicle for you.

I give this a perfect FIVE FLAG POINTS.

TWENTY-FIVE years ago, an army of Americans invaded the Philippines with guns a-blazing, tanks, choppers and attack boats. But they weren’t here to take over the country but to show how it is to be a real Joe.

Anyone who’s more than 20 years old now would remember G.I. Joe, a US military-themed cartoon series that first ran from 1982 to 1994 in the US. It was about the battle between the heroic G.I. Joes and the international terrorist group called Cobra. It was similar to the cartoon series and toy line Transformers, only there were about a hundred more characters and dozens of vehicles that came with it. This meant that parents of young boys back then had a bigger nightmare of having to subdue their kids from asking to buy the next character or vehicle from the TV series.

so is the new G.I.Joe live-action feature film going to be a "buddy-movie"? with "Action Man" as his counterpart?

this was what producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers, Shooter) had to say about script-writer Skip Woods, the script-direction and considering having Mark Wahlberg for the role of "DUKE" (circa March'07 / via LatinoReview):

"He just finished working on 'Die Hard 4.' I don't know if he's fully credited or not, but Skip worked on 'Swordfish' with me at Warner Brothers. Do you know Action Man? Action Man is the equivalent of G.I. Joe internationally pretty much. It's a different character, but pretty much the same idea and his name is Alex Mann. So we're creating a buddy movie between Duke and Alex. That's what we're doing. All the characters will be there and it'll be really fun, but unfortunately our president has put us in a position internationally where it would be very difficult to release a movie called 'G.I. Joe' internationally in a lot of places. I'm a big G.I. Joe fan and to add one character to the mix is sort of a fun thing to do." = read more here

frankly, i've sat on this "news" for the longest time, hoping that the "concept" would "go away, in time", but alas, my hopes were dashed (LOL) ... but i don't wanna go off ranting about my fav childhood-memories being butt-fcuked (Transformers notwithstanding, 'natch) by Hollywood and whatnot ... and i'd wanna keep my mind open to whatever possibilities that await the resurrection of my childhood-"heroes" ... so we'll see what toys the folks'll wanna be selling, yeh? oops! - i mean, "well see what the celluloid future holds for fans all over" ... *heh*

and as much as i wanna see how they treat Snake-eyes and Storm Shadow, what i'm really interested in, is how they'd be treating COBRA, innit? terrorists instead of world-dominators?

Live-action 'G.I. Joe' enlists Sommers

Call it "G.I. Go."

Paramount Pictures has finally mobilized "G.I. Joe" into action, hiring Stephen Sommers to direct the live-action film based on the popular Hasbro military action figures. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing.

While "Joe" toys have been around for decades, the movie will be based on the toys launched in the 1980s, which were also tied to a Saturday morning cartoon and comic book series. It is this version that saw the soldiers fight a terrorist group called Cobra, led by the Cobra Commander, and featuring villains like metal-faced Destro, master-of-disguise Zartan and biker gang Dreadnoks.

On the good guys' side were heroes such as the mute ninja Snake Eyes and the fetching heroine Scarlett.

Sommers is best known for helming the "Mummy" movies for Universal as well as the studio's "Van Helsing."

Sommers and Hasbro are repped by WMA.

my idea on the first of the buzz I hear the news that they are making a CGI TMNT movie and then I got this image in superherohype.com and I was surprise and really like the designs. they dont look like CGI, but more mutantly characters evolve..... wow...now after TransFormers, now TMNT..whats next ? GI JOE ? GOBOTS ? My Little Pony ??

friend from a local toy group, TOY SOLDIER requested from me an event celebrating the 25th Anniversary of G.I. JOE. thats 1982-2007. The year the cartoon series and toys emerge during our youngling days, wow! Its like im going back to grade school I use paper and boxes as my GI JOE figures and later on Mr. Santa Clause gave me a big Cobra HISS tank during Christmas and then even before that one of my relatives in the states gave me my first GI JOE figure - Torch, then my mom bought me HARDBALL figure from SM toy store.

COBRA H.I.S.S. tank, i still have this at home and now the one missing is the HISS tank pilot

and also that my classmate in UST during grades chool gave his this GI JOE part of the vehicle that looks like a anti tank.

ok here goes the ball for a triple point shot for the 25th anniversary event, I just talked to one of the biggest toy store here in Manila and they are game for the concept, but we should ask first the toy distributor on when will they release the 25th anniversary GI JOE toys, and I heard that it is one cool collectible, with new molds and it is still on its same scale size.

After Transformers..comes now GI JOE....yo joe!! cobra la la la la la.!

Yuri Timg

Born in Peru and raised in New York City, Yuri was educated at the "FAME" high school and The School of Visual Arts. Honing his skills as a master illustrator and comic artist he worked freelance for 10 years on a multitude of commercial projects.

In 2004, he moved to Asia and was hired by Art Asylum Hong Kong. Here he contributed his great talents on designs for Minimates, Lord of the Rings, Marvel Comics, Star Trek, Batman, Clive Barkers Jump Tribe, and more.

Yuri now has joined forces with Dig Deep Entertainment. His fierce artistic passion dedicated to Dig Deep's new intellectual properties for film, television and elite products. He is currently working on storyboarding and production design for the upcoming UK/HK action film A New Beginning as well as great many super limited Asia exclusive Marvel Comics statue lines!

Yuri Timg is a dedicated Martial Artist as well and studies Wing Chun and Arnis religiously alongside his commercial art achievements.

Walter A. McDaniel

This hyper creative talent was born in the St. Thomas Virgin Islands and grew up on the mean streets of New York Cities West Harlem. Striving throughout his entire childhood to make his mark one day in the art world.

His rise to notoriety in the comic world began right out of the gate following his education at the School of Virtual Arts. Sought after by all the comic giants, Walter went on to work with Marvel, DC, and Image Comics as well as his own independent projects.

His list of title accomplishments include Spiderman, Wolverine, X-men, Deadpool, Batman, Shadowhawk and the Pact just to name a few! He currently holds the license for Mortal Combat comics as well as his own intellectual property Kodai Djinns for film television, video games and product.

In addition to comics, he's founding father of WAM entertainment. A company dedicated to riginal content and servicing toy industry. His international team has contributed to Hot Wheels, GI JOE, Star Wars, and Transformers.

Walter McDaniel is now based in Hong Kong and is putting the final touches on his ground breaking entertainment property Kodai Djinns!
